Welcome to Jamestown
The success of our Nima program led to the replication of our activities in the community of Jamestown. Jamestown was the first location the British settled in as they colonized Ghana, then called the Gold Coast. It even earned the title of British Accra but still remains one of the most deprived communities of the capital with an estimated population of around 80,000 people. A recent report by Edulink states that 40% of girls and 20% of boys between the ages of 15-20 have engaged in sexual intercourse with many resulting in teenage pregnancy.
In our efforts to impact change in the Jamestown community, DUNK constructed the first ever safe space in the community to reach out to children between the ages of 6-19.
The facility is jointly funded by our lovely friends from Switzerland, volunteers, individuals, and corporations. It consists of a multipurpose court, a library, an equipment room, an office and a vocational space for teenage mothers to learn a trade.
